Supporting research and awareness of childhood cancer.
Research
It is reported that only 4% of the national budget for cancer research is allocated toward pediatric cancers. There is a child diagnosed with cancer every two minutes somewhere in the world. In the United States alone, one in five of those children diagnosed with cancer will not survive. The survival rate in developing countries is much lower. It takes more than what the government will give us to find a cure and develop better treatments,.
Research has also impacted us personally as we battled this aggressive brain tumor, AT/RT, with Camp. After 3 surgeries and 5 months of treatment, his cancer continued to spread and we were left without any more options. It took almost a year for us to even uncover the specifics of his tumor and the genetic make up, and by then it was far too late. We HAVE to have research if we ever have a hope of curing this terrible disease and giving all of these precious and innocent children a shot a a long and healthy life.
Awareness
We know and understand that if we are going to get people to join this fight against childhood cancer with us, they have to be aware. To make people care, we have to make them aware. People can't get involved if they don't know how.
To raise awareness, we host events at Children's Hospitals, use social media outlets, advocate to the state government, speak at churches and civic organizations, attend community meetings, hold community events, and spread our Camp Rocks 4 Kids.
We never thought that our family would be so personally impacted by this disease...nobody does, but, unfortunately it has become a reality. We don't expect childhood cancer to become everyone's life mission, but we just ask that you join with us when and how you can so that we can all work together to find a cure!
Jesus & Families
The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him. Psalm 28:7
This verse became etched on our hearts while Camp was in treatment and has remained with us as we continue to walk this road without him here physically. Without Jesus, we are nothing and we would never have had the ability and strength on our own to live this life. We know that because of the sacrifice Jesus paid on the cross for our sins, he has offered us eternal life in heaven with him. That hope of heaven and assurance that Camp is now with Jesus allows us to feel joy in the midst of heartache.
Because we have experienced first-hand how the Lord carries us through life's greatest difficulties, we want to share that hope with others. Even in the midst of seems like hopelessness, all hope is not lost. Jesus is our hope, our strength, and our shield, and because of Him we can face whatever tomorrow may hold.
Vision
Our vision for Campground Ministries is to positively impact the world for good through childhood cancer research and awareness while sharing the hope we have in Jesus with others. We are not willing to sit back and complain about the lack of funding available to find a cure for cancer, we have to get involved and be a part of the solution. We are striving to raise the funds to continue research for all types of pediatric cancer.
We fully understand the magnitude of that statement..."cure childhood cancer". We also understand that we serve a God that "is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think". We trust that through continuing research, raising awareness and ministering to families, there will be a cure for childhood cancer. We hope that there's not only a cure, but improved treatments that allow these children to lead long and healthy lives, free from all of the negative effects cancer can bring.
Please join with us in this fight. Everyone is important and every little bit helps! We would be honored to have you work alongside us in this mission.
